In the ad, which debuted Monday, Obama called for support for Question 3 when it comes to redistricting in the state. If approved, the measure would allow Democrats to redraw the boundaries of congressional districts in time for the 2028 election.

“You may have heard that Republicans in Washington got some states to redraw their congressional maps in the middle of an election year. They did it to try and hold onto power in Congress,” Obama said in part in the ad. “You can help stop this Republican power grab by voting yes on Question 3. It lets Maryland draw its own fair maps. Vote yes on Question 3.”

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore spoke about the ad on MS Now.

“I’m thankful for for President Obama’s voice in this, because what we’re doing is saying to the people of Maryland, that we are going to vote yes on Question 3, because a yes on Question 3 is a no to Donald Trump,” Moore said.

The 2026 general election takes place on Nov. 3.
